Chameera back into the attack...
After 17 overs,India 63/8 ( Kuldeep Yadav 12 , Chetan Sakariya 0)
What a spell from Hasaranga - 4-0-9-4. He bowls a mix of leg spinners and googlies in that over and gets the wicket of Chakravarthy. Just a single and a wicket off the over. Hasaranga has been really impressive on this tour. What a spell on his birthday!
India 63/8. Chetak Sakariya is the new batsman...
OUT! The Sri Lankans are flying in the field. It's that googly outside off, Chakravarthy comes forward and flicks it uppishly. Karunaratne at short mid-wicket flies to his left, and somehow manages to grab the catch. He fumbled a bit but recovered well to hold the ball to his body and drop it onto the ground.
After 16 overs,India 62/7 ( Kuldeep Yadav 11 , Varun Chakravarthy 0)
Another over, another wicket falls for India. Apart from the one down the leg side which was trickled for a four, it was a decent over from Shanaka. He mixed his lengths well. And the pace as well. He managed to induce a leading edge as well which flew safely to third man. And got that wicket off the slower bouncer of Chahar. Shanaka has been brilliant with has variations and his fielding as well. 7 runs and a wicket off the over.
OUT! Another one bites the dust. India 62/7. It's the slower bouncer on middle, Chahar at first looks to upper cut but then looks to take his bat away at the last moment. Ends up playing a half-hearted upper cut. The ball loops into the air and the keeper accepts a simple catch.
FOUR! A boundary after 70 balls. It's a poor delivery from Shanaka, it drags it down the leg side, Chahar trickles it and it runs away to fine leg.
After 15 overs,India 55/6 ( Kuldeep Yadav 9 , Rahul Chahar 0)
A successful over for Hasaranga. He kept a tight leash, gave away just two singles off the first four balls. Forced Bhuvneshwar to make things happen and then had him caught at short extra cover. He finished the over with a google off which Chahar missed his flick, there was an appeal for an LBW but the umpire turned it down. Looked to be going down the leg side. 2 runs and a wicket off the over.
OUT! Another brilliant catch from Shanaka. It's on length on middle and spinning away. Bhuvneshwar stays in his crease and looks to loft it over extra cover, doesn't connect it well and Shanaka at short extra cover leaps to pouch a one-handed catch.
Hasaranga back on...
After 14 overs,India 53/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 15 , Kuldeep Yadav 8)
50 up for India. A sort of a milestone. After two runs off the first three balls, Dananjaya drops one slightly short, it spins away, Bhuvneshwar rocks back and looks to hammer it over extra cover but misses. Bhuvneshwar then pushes it to covers for a single before Kuldeep drives one behind point for a couple. 5 runs off the over again.
After 13 overs,India 48/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 13 , Kuldeep Yadav 5)
India finally manage to get away from singles and manage to get a two in that over. This time the batsmen looked a bit authoritative. Bhuvneshwar punched one to deep cover for a single, there was a bit of hesitation for the second but they decided against taking it. Kuldeep then drove one through covers for a single. Bhuvneshwar pulled one to deep mid-wicket and then Kuldeep too connected a pull off the middle to get the two. Karunaratne finished the over with a slower one and a dot as Kuldeep pushed it to backward point. 5 runs off the over.
Karunaratne back into the attack....Surprising given that Shanaka was bowling well...
After 12 overs,India 43/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 11 , Kuldeep Yadav 2)
Nice deceptive over from Dananjaya. He flighted them well, bowled leg spin and off spin. He beat Bhuvneshwar's outside edge off one that spun away sharply. Bhuvneshwar has to be cautious throughout the over and took a single off the last ball to long off. Just that one run off the over.
Wasim bhai sums it up neatly
After 11 overs,India 42/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 10 , Kuldeep Yadav 2)
A good over from Shanaka again. He's mixed them up well again. Faster one, slower bouncer, back of the hand slower ball. Another over of just singles and no boundary. Three runs off it. Bhuvneshwar has looked confident at the wicket and he will be the key from here on. India reeling at 42/5 after 11 overs.
After 10 overs,India 39/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 8 , Kuldeep Yadav 1)
Lowest first 10 overs score for India in T20Is - 39/5. Dananjaya again bowls a disciplined over and even beat Kuldeep's outside edge with a lovely off spinner. Kuldeep then slog sweeps one to deep mid-wicket for a single. Before Bhuvneshwar pushes one to long on to make it three runs off the over.
Will they cross this milestone, or set a new record for themselves tonight?
Indias lowest T20i score is 74.... #SLvInd— Innocent Bystander (@InnoBystander) July 29, 2021
After 9 overs,India 36/5 ( Bhuvneshwar Kumar 6 , Kuldeep Yadav 0)
Brilliant over from Shanaka. He mixed them up well. Good length, bouncer, slower one. After two dots, Bhuvneshwar tucked one to fine leg for a single. Rana then played out two dots before getting a leading edge back to Shanaka who pouched a brilliant caught and bowled. It was the back of the hand slower one that did the trick. Just a single and a wicket off the over.
OUT! A moment of brilliance from Shanaka. He grabs a brilliant caught and bowled. It's a good length delivery on middle and leg, the back of the hand slower one, seems to stick on the wicket. Rana looks to turn it to the leg side but is early into the shot. Gets a leading edge back, Shanaka on his follow through dives full length to his left and pouches a brilliant catch. India in huge trouble.
Dasun Shanaka brings himself on to bowl.
After 8 overs,India 35/4 ( Nitish Rana 6 , Bhuvneshwar Kumar 5)
A good disciplined over from Dananjaya. He concentrated on flighting the ball and bowled stump to stump. Gives away just two singles.
Akila Dananjaya into the attack now...
After 7 overs,India 33/4 ( Nitish Rana 5 , Bhuvneshwar Kumar 4)
Hasarange continues his good work. Nearly a run out off the first ball. Bhuvneshwar gets an inside edge to the leg side and they set off for a quick single. The fielder misses his direct hit at the non-striker's end. Had that hit, it was going to be very close. Hasaranga then produced a leading edge off Rana but it flew wide of the short extra cover fielder to long off for a single. Another impressive over from Hasaranga. 4 runs off it.
After 6 overs,India 29/4 ( Nitish Rana 3 , Bhuvneshwar Kumar 2)
India 29/4 in the Powerplay. A decent over from Mendis but they gave away easy singles. Sri Lanka should try and build the pressure and maintain it. Four singles in that over.
Bhuvneshwar and Rana at the crease right now as India look to steady their ship. Mendis continues...
After 5 overs,India 25/4 ( Nitish Rana 1 , Bhuvneshwar Kumar 0)
A brilliant over for Sri Lanka, Hasaranga got some turn off the wicket. He beat Samson with a ripper off the second ball which turned sharply after landing. then got his man a ball later as Samson was trapped LBW. He finished the over with the wicket of Ruturaj with a googly. Just two singles and two wickets in that over.
OUT! Hasaranga gets second in the over. It's the googly that does the trick. It's flighted outside off, Ruturaj comes forward to push it to the off side but is outfoxed by the googly as it spins back in. He misses and gets hit on the back pad. The umpire lifts his finger on the appeal. Ruturaj opts for a review, replays show it was clipping the top of the stumps. Umpire's call and Ruturaj has to walk back. This is brilliant bowling from Hasaranga.
OUT! Hasaranga gets Samson again! He delivers it on the length on middle, it spins away after pitching. Samson stays rooted to his crease and looks to turn it away to the leg side but is done in by the spin. He misses it and is trapped right in front. Samson doesn't opt for a review. Good stuff from Hasaranga.
Hasaranga into the attack now...
After 4 overs,India 23/2 ( Ruturaj Gaikwad 13 , )
A successful over for Sri Lanka. Ruturaj looking to open up a bit. Padikkal too a single off the second ball. And then Ruturaj got down and swept one uppishly over short fine leg for four. Mendis then dragged one down the leg side for a WIDE. Ruturaj then takes a single. Padikkal then charges down the track and lofts one to long off for a couple before heading back to the pavilion trying to run for a non-existent single. 9 runs and a wicket off the over.
OUT! Oh dear! Devdutt Padikkal is run out. He looks to paddle one but misses and gets hit on the pads, the ball rolls over to the leg side. There is a huge appeal for an LBW, umpire Dharmasena was about to raise his finger. Meanwhile amidst all this, Padikkal sets off for a risky single, he's almost half way down as Ruturaj sends him back but it's too late as the fielder throws the ball to the keeper who whips the bails off.
FOUR! Gaikwad gets down and sweeps it over short fine leg, off Mendis, good placement.
Spinner into the attack now. Off Spinner Ramesh Mendis comes on...
After 3 overs,India 14/1 ( Ruturaj Gaikwad 8 , Devdutt Padikkal 6)
Good stuff from Chameera. Good aggression. He bowled a variety of deliveries in that over. Outswinger, bouncer, length deliveries. There was one which moved away and Padikkal left it alone at the last moment. He ducked under one of the bouncers while looked to upepr cut one at the last moment but missed. The last one was thumped to mid off by Padikkal but the fielder did well to dive and stop. Just two runs off the over.
After 2 overs,India 12/1 ( Ruturaj Gaikwad 7 , Devdutt Padikkal 5)
A decent over from Karunaratne. He erred in length off one ball and was punished. It pushed it a bit full outside off and Padikkal drove it through covers for four. Three more singles in the over made it 7 off the over. Gaikwad is looking to stay busy and taking those quick singles. 7 runs off the over.
FOUR! Nicely done. A touch full from Karunaratne, Padikkal comes forward and drives it through cover-point.
After 1 overs,India 5/1 ( Ruturaj Gaikwad 5 , Devdutt Padikkal 0)
A good first over from Chameera. He found a hint of swing and movement off the pitch. The first couple of them were a touch full and driven well by Ruturaj. One of them was misfielded at covers and it ran away for four. Ruturaj then guided one to third man for a single. However, Chameera delivered a beauty to Dhawan first up and induced an outside edge to send him back to the pavilion. He delivered another similar delivery to Padikkal off the next ball, Padikkal is caught in two minds and then leaves it alone at the last moment. There is no last moment decision off the final ball as he leaves alone one outside off. 5 runs and a wicket off the over.
Devdutt Padikkal strides out to the middle..
OUT! Chameera strikes early! Dhawan departs. Length delivery outside off from Chameera, nips away. Dhawan pushes at it without any feet movement, get an outside edge and De Silva pouches a good low catch.
FOUR! Ruturaj off the mark. Poor fielding. Ruturaj drives the full delivery from Chameera to covers where the fielder dives over the ball and makes a mess of it. There are about four people chasing that ball but it runs away to the fence.
Right then! India openers - Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shikhar Dhawan are out in the middle. Chameera will start off proceedings for Sri Lanka.

India vs Sri Lanka (IND vs SL) 3rd T20I Live Cricket Score Updates: What a spell from Hasaranga - 4-0-9-4. He bowls a mix of leg spinners and googlies in that over and gets the wicket of Chakravarthy. Just a single and a wicket off the over. Hasaranga has been really impressive on this tour. What a spell on his birthday!
Preview: India take on Sri Lanka in the 3rd T20I in Colombo. After the COVID-19 chaos which saw Krunal Pandya and eight of his close contacts in the Indian team ruled out of the series, the action finally got underway following one day postponement.
Sri Lanka bounced back in the 2nd T20I to draw level 1-1. It was a good bowling effort from them, especially the spinners to restrict India to a below-par total of 132/5. Their batsmen stuttered in the chase but crucial contributions from Minod Bhanuka (36 off 31), Dhananjaya de Silva (40 off 34), Chamika Karunaratne (12 off 6) and Wanindu Hasarange (15 off 11) made sure that Sri Lanka were still alive as they chased down the target with two deliveries to spare.
They would be happy that the middle order made crucial contributions after failures early on.
India were unlucky as they were down to bare bones with the availability of the players. They were forced to play just five batsmen along with six bowlers and they had to strategise accordingly in the batting department. There were 4 debuts for India and they will get another chance to shine on the big stage.
The team will mostly be the same given the lack of options at hand. One of the batsmen will need to bat through while the other will need to take their chances and try to bat big as well. The pitches have been slower and sluggish and the batsmen will have to find a way to score runs on tough tracks and against pace variations.
For India, Kuldeep Yadav impressed in the bowling department and he will be looking to get back into the reckoning for the T20 World Cup with another solid performance.
With Sri Lanka looking to end on a high after the ODI series loss and India looking to do the double, we could be in for an enthralling finale.
